Acquiring Chartered StatusSPE members have the opportunity to acquire Chartered status as a result of an alliance recently established between SPE and the UK Energy Institute. Created in 2003 from the merger of the Institute of Petroleum and the Institute of Energy, the Energy Institute is a licensed member of the Engineering Council - the UK chartering organisation. Representing almost 12,000 professionals both nationally and internationally, this leading professional body has extensive experience of competence based assessment. Chartered Engineer (C.Eng)This designation is available to engineers throughout the world through a competence assessment in areas such as engineering applications, innovation in solving engineering problems, technical and commercial leadership, interpersonal skills and commitment to professional development. Chartered Petroleum EngineerAlthough based on similar competences to those for CEng, this accreditation is only available from the Energy Institute. Recognition is given to those with specialist skills in drilling and production, reservoir management and operations and downstream production.
