SPE London - Students and ScholarshipsThe SPE London Section has provided support to petroleum engineering students for more than 30 years. In the past, the Section sponsored at least one student each year on the MSc course at Imperial College, London, using a significant proportion of the Section’s budget to cover students’ tuition fees and provide a stipend. The Section is now seeking to work in partnership with companies in the UK E&P industry by offering matching funds. The current cost of an individual scholarship is £17,000, and SPE London Section hopes the new scheme will attract companies willing to offer one-third to two-thirds of the required sum. The result will hopefully be the ability jointly to offer two or three annual scholarships instead of one. “This initiative offers more organisations the opportunity to be involved in attracting additional students into the industry, and the SPE London Section can leverage the annual sum it reserves for this purpose,” said SPE London Section chairman Pete Naylor.
