Women continue to be underrepresented in traditionally masculine occupations and in the upper echelons of most organisations. It has been argued that this inequality reflects inherent gender differences in ambition that lead women to 'opt-out' of organisational life. We will talk about our program of research that demonstrates that rather than being fixed and dependent of gender, ambition can, at least in part, determined by organizational culture, stereotypes, role models, and identity. We will provide practical examples of the way in which organisations can make the most of women's abilities and retain their talent. Dr. Michelle Ryan, Associate Professor, 15.40 - 16.15 The Hidden Secrets of the Undergarment…….. Ever wondered if you’re wearing the right undergarments for your outfit? Are you completely baffled when you walk into a shop by the number of choices you have? During this session, representatives from 16.15 – 16.45 Speed Mentoring/Networking Like speed dating, delegates will be split into 2 groups; early/mid career and experienced/management. This activity will test your time management, communication and networking skills with just 10 minutes for quick fire questions and information sharing either individually or in small groups before the bell rings and it is time to move on! This is both an opportunity for those in the earlier stages of their careers to benefit from the advise and experience of those more experienced – and for the more experienced ladies to benefit from the feedback and opinions of those working to establish their careers.
