SPE Aberdeen Young Professionals (YP)

The SPE Aberdeen section is at the heart of the YP programme. The activities of the Aberdeen YP are managed by a volunteer committee with collective and specific responsibilities for various facets of the organisation.

The Aberdeen YP committee was founded to bring together people in an atmosphere of education and fun. It provides a strong combination of professional development, technical learning, social networking and educational support.

The programme is specifically created for the younger segment of our membership, which makes up approximately 35% of the Aberdeen section members.

Sankesh Sundareshwar, Asset Process Engineer, Bluewater Services - YP Chairman

Sankesh graduated with honours in Mechanical Engineering from R.V.C.E, Bangalore, India in 2003.  He then worked as a Research Assistant in India’s premier institute for science and technology development, The Indian Institute of Science for a year.  His research focused on brainstorming techniques and other methods to make design teams efficient.   Inspired by working with the best minds in his country he chose to do a challenging Master’s course in University of Manchester in Advanced Chemical Process Design from which he graduated in 2005.

He soon started his career in the Oil and Gas industry as a process engineer in ETA Process Plant Ltd and specialized in design and commissioning of Water Injection systems.  This role took him all over the world from Sakhalin to Brazil on offshore commissioning work.  After two years of this experience he moved to Aberdeen and worked at Maxoil Solutions for the next four years.  Here he gained valuable experience in flow assurance, field development projects and troubleshooting of production and operations issues.  He has currently started his own business as a limited company and provides operations support and process engineering services to Bluewater assets.

Sankesh joined the SPE YP in 2008 initially to develop his contacts through the networking opportunities available in SPE.  However as an active volunteer he has got out much more than industry contacts from the SPE such as mentoring from experienced professionals in the industry, satisfaction of guiding students and organizing events to serve other young professionals in Aberdeen and globally.  He has served as the SPE YP Chair since 2010.

In his free time Sankesh practices yoga and has been fine tuning the various Indian recipes passed on to him from his mother.

Wonuola Scott, Data Analyst, Rushmore Reviews - Website

Wonuola graduated with a BSc. honours degree in Chemical and Polymer Engineering at the Lagos State University, Nigeria. During his first degree, he concurrently developed skills as a programmer and web developer at the prestigious NIIT. He got himself involved with several IT projects and always saw himself as a catalyst and translator between the worlds of engineering and IT.

In his final year, it became apparent which industry in which to direct his passion. Wonuola decided to pursue a Masters degree in Oil and Gas Engineering at the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen in 2006.

In 2008, Wonuola started his career in the Oil and Gas industry with the Rushmore Reviews where he is involved with providing drilling and completions performance benchmarking services to global oil companies. As a data analyst, he gets to interact with engineers from all over the world to discuss well data requirements and data errors. He inevitably built a network of technical experts from which he learns everyday about the industry.

He is recently contracted to Statoil to extract and submit their global drilling and completions performance data to the Rushmore database.

When he is not working, he enjoys relaxing with his family and reading. He also performs in a jazz band and choir as a bass player.

lola

Lola Ajagbonna, Data Analyst, Rushmore Reviews - YP Secretary

Lola graduated in 2005 with a B.Eng. in chemical engineering from Federal University of Technology, Minna.  She got interested in the upstream sector of the industry and decided to pursue an MSc in Oil and Gas engineering at the Robert Gordon University, where she graduated in 2008 with distinction. She has since worked as a Data Analyst for the Rushmore Reviews. Working as a Data Analyst has helped her gain good understanding of the economic, business as well as the technical aspects of the industry. It has also exposed her to the varying new technologies used by operators around the world as well as their performances.

In 2010, she felt she could contribute more to the industry and after having a chat with her SPE mentor, she decided to become actively involved in the SPE. From her first day at the meeting, she volunteered to assist in organising major events across Aberdeen, which have been hugely successful. Her journey with SPE has been exciting as well as challenging and it has exposed her to many opportunities and people she wouldn’t have met if she wasn’t part of it. She currently serves as the SPE YP Secretary.

Lola likes to keep busy, although she cherishes every chance she gets at relaxing. She is a member of the Lion’s club where she is involved in different projects raising money for charity. Lola currently volunteers to work with the kids as she finds them simply adorable.

Lola loves travelling, experiencing different cultures, she doesn’t read as much as she would love to but can’t put a good book down once she’s started.  She enjoys playing occasional 5 a side football with her colleagues. She is always up for a laugh, whether it’s watching stand-up comedy, sitcoms or just hanging out with friends and never gives up an opportunity to dance Ceilidh!

alexandre

Alexandre Nappez, Reservoir Engineer, Nexen - Website

After spending most of his life in France, Alexandre decided to gain international experience by spending a year at the University of Southampton as an exchange student.

Thirsty for more adventure, he then spent five months in French Guiana where he did his Masters project working for CNES, the French arm of the European Space Agency.

This was only the beginning… soon, after completing his Masters of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, he returned to the University of Southampton to spend one year as a research student and then moved to London and studied Petroleum Engineering at Imperial College.
In January 2008, Alex (as most of his friends call him) started his career with Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd in London as a Reservoir Engineer.

After more than two years working in the London office as a Reservoir Engineer first and then as an Economist, Alex was transferred to Aberdeen to acquire invaluable operational experience.
In Aberdeen, Alex spent almost one year in the Drilling and Completions department before becoming a Production Engineer; he still holds this position today.

Next year, he will return to the London office to perfect his Reservoir Engineering skills, ready for more challenges and adventures!
